Jazz in the Mountains helps experienced adult instrumentalists realize musical growth in an enjoyable atmosphere of common goals and shared experiences. ​
​Besides the afternoon clinics and sectionals, the evening performances and jam sessions, campers will take part in an ensemble with rehearsals, practice, and preparation leading up to the Thursday Evening Performance. Issues of ensemble sound, jazz interpretation, styles, improvisation, technique, personal sound, repertoire, and stage presence will be part of that preparation. Patience, cooperation, contributions to the community, and growth through constructive criticism will be hallmarks of a successful jazz experience.
​Each element of the camp experience is considered with these goals in mind:
  • Prioritize the musical growth and jazz education of campers over performance
  • Strive to provide a high quality and inspiring music experience for each camper.
  • Expect campers of similar and dissimilar abilities to work together and support each other
  • Offer opportunities for and approaches to improvisation
  • Provide the structure for a positive social experience
  • Staff the camp with individuals whose musical, interpersonal, and educational strengths help us further these goals
